The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid game console designed to be used as either a handheld or while docked to your TV. Since launching in 2017, it's become one of the best-selling game consoles ever.
Now Nintendo is getting ready to launch its next game console… and it looks like the company has no plans to reinvent the wheel. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released later this year, and based on a "first-look trailer" video that the company has released, it's basically a bigger Nintendo Switch with a very modestly updated design.
The Switch 2 has the same basic design as the original, and Nintendo says it'll be backward compatible: you'll be able to play most Nintendo Switch games on the Switch 2, as well as new games that are only available for the upcoming console (which will most likely have more processing power).
So what's new? Among other things:
That's about all we know so far, but Nintendo plans to announce more information during an event on April 2nd, 2025 and the company will be doing a sort of world to let people in select cities get their hands on the Switch 2 ahead of launch starting April 4 in North America and Europe, as well as later in April and May for locations in Australia and Asia.
