HP is discontinuing the HP Dragonfly brand of thin and light business-class notebooks, but it's just the name that the company is retiring, not the idea, because the new HP EliteBook Ultra G1a picks up where the Dragonfly line left off.

The company is introducing several new models at CES, including a clamshell notebook that measures just 14.9mm (0.59 inches) thick and has a starting weight of 1.2 kg (2.6 pounds) and a convertible model that's a tad heavier, but which features a touchscreen display and 360 degree hinge. The first members of the EliteBook Ultra lineup are coming this month for $2019 and up with features including a 14 inch, 2880 x 1800 pixel, 120 Hz OLED display, an Intel Lunar Lake processor, and a 9MP webcam.

The HP EliteBook Ultra G1a comes with Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 processor options featuring up to 32GB of on-package LPDDR5x memory. Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB SSDs. And all models are available with Intel BE201 wireless cards with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Ports include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack. And the laptop features a 64 Wh battery and 65W USB Type-C power supply.

The laptop's 9MP IR webcam supports face recognition for biometric security, and HP's Poly Camera Pro app includes support for AI-enhanced background features as well as "scenes" that let you add visual overlays to your video. There's also a privacy shutter that you can slide to cover the camera when you're not using it.

Other features include dual microphones and quad speakers, and a backlit keyboard with a Microsoft Precision Touchpad featuring support for haptic feedback.

HP is also launching several somewhat lower-priced business laptops including the new HP EliteBook X G1i and HP EliteBook X Flip G1i.

The Flip is a 14 inch laptop with support for up to a 2560 x 1600 pixel touchscreen display, a 360-degree hinge, and Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 Lunar Lake processor options with 16GB of LPDDR5x-8533 on-package memory and support for up to a 2TB SSD.

It comes with 56 Wh and 68 Wh battery options and features a set of ports that includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, and HDMI and headphone jacks, a 5MP camera, and an aluminum body that measures 17.5mm (0.6 inches) thick and weighs 1.39 kg (3.06 pounds).

The Elitebook X1 G1i, meanwhile, is a clamshell model with a magnesium alloy chassis. It has a starting weight of 1.18 kg (2.6 pounds) and measures 17.6mm (0.6 inches) thick). Most other features are similar to those for the convertible tablet model, expect that touchscreens are optional on this model.

Pricing and availability details for the HP EliteBook X series should be available closer to launch.
