Intel's new Core (Series 2) processors are mobile chips designed for laptops. But while the processors are new, their architecture isn't. The new chips are based on the same Raptor Lake technology Intel introduced in 2022, and which the company has used for several different laptop and desktop chip families since then.
The company has kept Raptor Lake alive as part of the Intel Core family as a way to present a lower-cost alternative to newer Core Ultra-branded chips that are part of the Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake, and upcoming Arrow Lake families. But while the new processors are based on older architecture, they do bring a few improvements.
IntelIntel is kicking things off by introducing five Intel Core 200H series processors. These are 45-watt chips with support for up to 14 cores and 20 threads and turbo speeds up to 5.8 GHz.
By comparison, the previous-gen Intel Core 100 series were only available as 15-watt U-series chips with up to 10 cores, 12 threads, and speeds topping out at 5.4 GHz. Intel is expected to offer Core 200U series processors eventually, (along with a whole bunch of other Intel 200 series mobile chips that are based on Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake architecture), and but so far the only models that have been officially added to the Intel website are the higher-power H-series.
These chips range from an Intel Core 5 210H processor with 4 Performance cores and 4 efficiency cores to a Cire 9 270H chip with 6 Performance cores and 8 Efficiency cores.
These chips have higher base and max frequencies for both the CPU and GPU than their closest Intel 100U series counterparts, more cache, and Core 7 or higher chips also support faster memory (up to DDR5-5600).
