While the specific foundry partner of the Chinese firm remains undisclosed, one significant challenge, aside from potential U.S. trade sanctions, is determining which 5G modem will be integrated with the System-on-Chip (SoC). Previously, we explored Xiaomi's potential partners, and according to recent information, the company will collaborate with MediaTek for this endeavor.

The MediaTek T90 5G modem is reportedly to be utilized in Xiaomi's unidentified 3nm chipset, which may represent a newer version designed to offer exceptional speeds and efficiency. This information was shared on Weibo by a user identified as ‘Mobile Phone Chip Expert.’ However, upon reviewing MediaTek's official website, it appears that the latest baseband solution available is the T830, designated for various applications.

In a related note, it was previously indicated that Xiaomi’s proprietary 3nm chipset would not feature an integrated 5G modem and would instead require sourcing from external suppliers, posing certain risks. We have attempted to locate information regarding the T90, including user manuals and specifications, but we have not been successful, suggesting that Xiaomi's in-house 3nm chipset will pair with an unreleased MediaTek solution.

MediaTek has made significant advancements, successfully competing with industry leaders like Apple through the release of its Dimensity 9400, which is the company's first to be mass-produced using TSMC's second-generation 3nm technology. Given this progress, MediaTek may utilize TSMC’s advanced lithography in supplying Xiaomi with T90 modem shipments; however, these specifics were not disclosed in the latest rumors.

At this juncture, we have more inquiries than resolutions, which we anticipate will be addressed soon. For now, we remain hopeful that Xiaomi can achieve a solution to decrease its reliance on Qualcomm and other suppliers without incurring U.S. sanctions.
