The Chipset’s Designation Number Found In Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 Software
Several details regarding the 2025 flagship silicon have been presented in prior reports, which we will explore in greater depth below.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is expected to carry the designation ‘SM8850’, according to recent leaks, although specific specifications remain unconfirmed. This information was shared by Erencan Yılmaz on X, indicating that Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 is actively testing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. It is not unusual for companies like Qualcomm to initiate development of their flagship silicon ahead of time; however, it is important to note that the initial wave of smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite has not yet entered the market. It is plausible that the ‘SM8850’ designation has been referenced due to HyperOS 2's readiness for compatibility, suggesting that future devices utilizing this chipset would support both platforms.

Unfortunately, at this stage, it is premature to make any definitive statements regarding Qualcomm’s future plans. Currently, we cannot confirm the manufacturing process that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will employ, although there have been rumors indicating that Qualcomm is seeking to incorporate Samsung into its supply chain, which could potentially lower production costs for the chipset. Initially, we referred to next year’s release as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, given Qualcomm's lack of confirmation regarding the naming of its current SoC.

Additionally, there is speculation that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 may utilize TSMC’s new 3nm N3P process alongside Samsung’s SF2 node, also referred to as 2nm GAA, contingent upon Samsung enhancing its yield rates to an acceptable level.

In summary, while there is a plethora of rumors surrounding this new silicon, none provide concrete evidence at this time. Therefore, we will await further updates before offering an impartial analysis.
