Samsung DeX has had a good run, but One UI 7 will mark the end of the Windows app.

SUMMARY

The One UI 7 rollout will mark the conclusion of a widely appreciated feature.

Samsung has announced that it will be discontinuing support for DeX for PC on Windows operating systems.

Users will continue to have the ability to connect their mobile devices to their PCs through Link to Windows.

STORY

While the features of One UI 7 have remained largely undisclosed, recent leaks have illuminated some of the expected updates upon its release. Notably, Samsung’s Spanish website revealed information about new icons, an upgraded notification center, and a redesigned lock screen. Concurrently, Samsung UK provided an unexpected yet anticipated update regarding the DeX app for PC on Windows.

For those unfamiliar, Samsung DeX is an application that enables Galaxy device owners to open a separate window on their PC to access their device's screen. This functionality facilitates seamless file transfers between the two devices. The term DeX is an abbreviation for "Desktop eXperience."

Samsung has recently refreshed the DeX page on its UK website. While it may be easy to overlook, a scroll to the bottom of the page reveals notable information regarding One UI 7 and its impact on the DeX app. The company indicates: "Support for DeX for PC on Windows operating systems will be ending with the One UI 7 version." Users will still be able to extend their phone screens onto their PCs by connecting a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. However, given the popularity of the app, it is disappointing to receive this update.

The discontinuation of the DeX Windows application is not the only feature losing support with the onset of the One UI 7 rollout. Support for downloading third-party edge panels will also be phased out.
