London-based Nothing has launched the Phone 2a Plus Community Edition, a special glow-in-the-dark variant created through collaboration with fans, with a limited release of just 1,000 units available starting November 12.
1. The Phone 2a Plus Community Edition features a glow-in-the-dark rear made from a green-tinted phosphorescent material and was developed in collaboration with passionate Nothing fans.
2. The design process involved over 900 submissions from 47 countries, with selected concepts refined by Nothing’s team.
3. The device was developed in four main stages: hardware design, wallpaper design, packaging design, and marketing campaign creation.
4. The hardware design, created by Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki, is fully analogue and does not use the device’s battery.
5. The Community Edition includes a unique wallpaper collection by Andrés Mateos, themed around technology, and aims to offer aesthetic variety for users.
6. Packaging designed by Ian Henry Simmonds incorporates reflective elements that glow in the dark, enhancing the overall presentation of the device.
7. The marketing campaign, titled "Find your light. Capture your light" by Sonya Palma, is designed to resonate with the brand's identity and previous product launches.
8. The pricing in foreign markets is set between £399 and ¥55,800, with US pricing and availability still unclear.
9. Despite being a special edition, the internal specifications of the Phone 2a Plus remain identical to the regular model.
10. The release coincides with the Halloween season, positioning it as a themed novelty product for fans and collectors.
