Lilbits: PS5 Pro announced, KDE Slimbook 16 launched, Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series leaked, and Flipper Zero gets firmware version 1.0

Samsung has dominated the premium Android tablet space in recent years, and if recent leaks are to be believed, this year's tablets will bring more of the same… with an emphasis on more. The new Galaxy Tab Ultra, for example, will still be a 14.6 inch tablet with a flagship processor with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, but now it also supports WiFi 7.

In other recent tech news from around the web, the new Sony PlayStation 5 Pro is a souped-up PS5 that the company says will deliver higher frame rates, better raytracing, and support for 8K and variable refresh rate gaming. Slimbook and KDE have announced a slight upgrade to their co-branded KDE Slimbook laptop. And Motorola has unveiled its first phone that's guaranteed to get software updates for at least five years.

It doesn't look like Samsung is reinventing the wheel here: the tablets look a lot like last year's models. But the new Galaxy S10 Ultra supports WiFi 7 and rather than Qualcomm processors, this year's tablets are expected to feature MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processors.

Update: WinFuture has more pictures of the tablets, as well as estimated prices for the tablets in Germany. Short version: they're expensive.

The $700 PS5 Pro shows that game consoles are more PC-like then ever. It plays the same games as the PS5, but a GPU upgrade brings higher frame rates, raytracing improvements , AI upscaling, VRR, and 8K support. It also features WiFi 7. The PS5 Pro goes up for pre-order September 26, 2024 and should be available beginning November 7. Note that there's no optical disc drive – if you want to play physical discs, you'll need to pay extra for an external drive.

KDE Slimbook VI Linux laptop is a pretty modest upgrade over the 5th-gen model. It's still a 16 inch laptop with a 2.5K, 120 Hz display but it has a Ryzen 7 8845HS chip (up from 7840HS) and up to 96GB RAM (up from 64GB).

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo is a mid-range phone with a Dimensity 7300 chip and up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage. It'll ship with Android 14, but it's also Motorola's first phone with a promise of updates for 5 years… which doesn't necessarily mean frequent updates.

While other phone makers offer updates for up to 7 years, this is still a pretty big step for Motorola, which up until now has typically promised 3 years of updates at most.

The Flipper Zero is a $169 pocket-sized hacking tool that can be used for a wide variety of applications. It's been available for several years, but the Flipper team is just now rolling out a stable build of the Flipper Zero Firmware version 1.0. Among other things it brings a 2X speed boost in Bluetooth data transfer rates, longer standby battery life, a new NFC subsystem, and support for apps developed in JavaScript.

FIRST LOOK: Pixel 9 Series Devices Leak IRL

Several live images of the upcoming Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL have been leaked. This confirms the new vendor-style camera bump and overall rounded aesthetic. We're still a few months away from these devices actually launching, but the plethora of leaks we've received leave little to the imagination. The news we have so far is that the company will be giving the Pixel lineup a completely different aesthetic, including flatter edges, rounded corners, and a large pill-shaped camera bump. The camera bump is the most noticeable part of the new design. In addition to the new design, we also learned that Google is bringing back the Pixel XL model this year. The last time we saw an XL model was the Pixel 4 XL. So, in this news, we could be looking at his three different Pixel 9 models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
