According to recent reports, Google plans to update its Gemini Nano AI model in time for the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S25 series next year.
This report was provided by Daum Herald Economy (Korean) following an interview with Cho Cheol-min, Samsung's Director of Systems Executive (via Android Authority). Talks between Samsung and Google have already begun, with the two brands said to be aiming to "develop" on-device AI with three companies:
Cho explained that "We have started discussions on how version 2 of Google's Gemini Nano can be implemented for AI on devices," and that Samsung has held "private" meetings with the company. He added that he plans to discuss how to do that. They may further develop AI for the Galaxy S25. Samsung continues to focus on its AI efforts, with Cho reportedly expressing how AI will allow consumers to "experience AI in action." The company believes that a phone is better than a PC for users to experience the capabilities of his AI. Cho said the company wants to double the number of people working on AI features on devices using Exynos chipsets. He said about 200 people were involved in developing Exynos' on-device AI. He expects that number to grow to 400 "by the end of the year."
Additionally, Samsung's CEO hinted at the possibility of a solution that combines on-device AI with his cloud-based AI services. For comparison, Google's Gemini Nano model is the smallest of his three models developed by the company. Nano is designed to efficiently handle smaller tasks on your device. This model was designed with the intention of being included in Android smartphones, much like Google did with the Pixel 8 series.
Samsung's Galaxy AI leverages Gemini Nano and Gemini Pro's LLM (Large Language Model) to assist users with tasks on their devices. However, the company relies on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC to enable such AI capabilities. Samsung is rumored to be interested in enhancing the AI capabilities of its Exynos chips, and could do so with the Exynos 2500 as well.
Earlier this year, information about Samsung's next chip was leaked, indicating that it would likely offer increased speed and performance. Rumor has it that this chip will be clocked at 3.2 or 3.3 GHz.
